What Should I Do?

Based on CDC and WHO guidance, checked against those sources on Oct 12, 2026. Educational information only — not a diagnosis or a substitute for a licensed healthcare professional.

Before and during travel

  • Check the mpox notices layer for your destination — clade I mpox outbreaks have prompted travel notices for parts of Africa.
  • If you are eligible for vaccination, get the first dose at least 6 weeks before you travel (the second dose follows 4 weeks later).
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick, including those with skin lesions.
  • If a new, unexplained rash appears, get medical care right away and say where you traveled in the 21 days before it started.
