OutbreakWatch

How alerts work

The app checks official sources in the background and notifies you only about something new for your saved places and trips.

  • Turn alerts on in the app (Profile, or when saving a place or trip).
  • The app checks official sources in the background every few hours; your phone (iOS or Android) decides the exact timing.
  • You're notified about new or updated CDC travel notices and WHO outbreak reports for your saved places and trips, and about significant increases in reported activity (a rise of two levels in a week, or a rise into Elevated or High).
  • Each update is sent once. At most three alerts arrive at a time; more are combined into one summary.
  • When you first turn alerts on, existing notices are recorded silently, so you only hear about new ones.

Everything runs on your phone. There is no account, and your saved places are not sent to OutbreakWatch. To stop alerts, switch them off in Profile or in your phone's Settings > Notifications.
