Where the data comes from

U.S. CDC, the World Health Organization, the U.S. State Department and other official sources, refreshed automatically every day.

  • U.S. CDC: hospital admission levels (NHSN), respiratory illness levels, emergency-visit trends by county (NSSP), wastewater levels (NWSS), measles cases, and Travelers' Health notices and destination pages.
  • World Health Organization: global influenza surveillance (FluNet), COVID-19 data, and Disease Outbreak News.
  • U.S. State Department: travel advisories (shown separately as general safety, not health).

OutbreakWatch checks its sources automatically once a day and keeps the date each source covers. Most agencies publish weekly, so the newest data is often several days old. The Data sources page shows when each source was last checked and whether the check succeeded.
